Huipil Artificial Leather Womens Handbag

Brand New. Handcrafted by women in Guatemala. This handbag is unique as they are crafted from vegetable-tanned leather and recycled huipil with brass grommets. Huipil (pronounced wee-peel) is the Spanish word for the traditional blouses worn by Mayan women for centuries. They are still prominent in Guatemalan and a few other Latin American cultures today. The huipil is the most prevalent part of a womans traditional dress and is of great cultural significance to the Mayans. The weave or design of each huipil can identify the village she is from and is a work of art.
